The Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

Once again, brand Lamborghini has come out with a dream of a sports car - The Lamborghini Murcielago. the design has been perfected by Luc Donkerwolke. Lamborghini had brought out the Diablo earlier and in 2001 followed it up with the Murcielago, a two door coupe. As a special gesture to commemorate 40 years of existence of the company, 2003 saw a total of 50 special editions of this car being built. The Roadster, an top-open version was also brought out in 2004. It had two basic differences, an aggressive rear flank and heavier on the pocket.

The engine of the Murcielago is a 6.2 ltr copy of the Lamborghini V 12. the transmission can be either a 6 speed manual or sequential automatic with 4-W drive. A rear spoiler moves in a 70 degree arc, folding side mirrors for better dynamics and automatically opening side scoops for better cooling of the engine.

The Murcielago is heavy on fuel consumption giving a measly 8/13 mpg. It does qualify for the lowest rung in fuel efficiency standards. It is $107,000 more expensive than the Gallardo.

2006 saw a 6.5 ltr engine being fitted and the Murcielago was re-christened as the LP640, with a minor facelift.

Whenever you ask someone to name a supercar, they might come up with many names. If you mention Lamborghini, the sound of that will make a real enthusiast go weak in his knees because Lamborghini is well.. something else. There is something remarkable about this supercar that distinguishes it from the rest. It does not matter whether some other car is faster or more comfortable, a Lamborghini will still set the standards for supercars to follow. Some call it overweight, some call it plain old. But, there is no one who doesn't sigh and sit up and take notice when a Lamborghini passes him by.

The Lamborghini is not what you will normally call a comfortable car. And it is not even meant to be. The seats are hard, the optional accessories are non-existent and there is not much space inside except to seat you and your partner. But, once you rev that engine, it will blow you away. The engine noise will go through your entire body and you will close your eyes and get immersed in the wonder that is this car. And when you start driving, you will realise that the absence of creature comforts is what connects you to the car. Every impression, every dip is registered and will stay with you for as long as you live.

It is a common saying that the best things in life are free. This may be true when it comes to air but definitely not true when it comes to the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. It will set you back by a cool $318,800. This is including the super cool scissor-opening doors. For you to pamper your ears, there is an advanced stereo system that you can use, though we are sure that music will be the last thing on your mind when you are driving the Murcielago LP640. Love it or hate it, you simply cannot ignore it!
